Fayetteville residents have three more opportunities to comment on a proposed new zoning category designed for large, mixed-use developments. City Council Monday will have first reading of an ordinance creating the planned community district category, with plans to act on it March 20 after discussing it again in a March 15 work session. The meeting is at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Waiting in the wings is The Village, the first proposed project seeking the new zoning category. The city Planning Commission will discuss the project March 14 and again March 28 before voting on whether to recommend the PCD zoning for the 110-acre, 203-home plan, which also includes neighborhood shopping, offices, parks and a hotel. The Main Street program in Fayetteville is ready to start phase two of its median beautification program. Bids for landscaping the medians on Ga. Highway 85 from Shoney's to the northern end of Fayette Pavilion will be on City Council's agenda Monday night. Council meets at 7 p.m. at City Hall. During a work session Wednesday, council members seemed inclined to award the work to Hollingsworth Landscapes for its bid of $94,191. At $94,097, A Cut Above's bid is the lowest, but Hollingsworth is a local company and the city has had good experience with the company on phase one of the median project, officials said. They've done a tremendous job on [Ga. Highway] 54 east and west, said Councilman Al Hovey-King, chairman of the city's Main Street Committee.
