Chruch taking stock of its health in 2000

The millennium is a time that many are using for reflection and for looking ahead, and the North Fayette United Methodist Church is no exception.

Lead pastor the Rev. N. Franklin Long Jr. said members of the congregation are taking self-assessments of their resources, the church's past 17 years and looking at where they are now and where they want to be.

“We're calling it a `church health seminar' to examine the importance of our church health. It is more important to be healthy when considering ways in which to grow,” he said, “because if you're healthy, you WILL grow.”

The church is in need of two new part-time staff members, one looking after its youth ministry and one to look after its children's ministry. While the ministry staff consists currently of 10 full- and part-time positions, the church considers its ministers to be all the members.

Among the programs and ministries in place now are a pre-school (you need to register now), a Parent's Day Out, support of the Fayette Samaritans, the United Methodist Youth Fellowship for teens, the United Methodist Men, six various music ministries, and the Faith, Hope and Charity Circle for women.

Long will have a prayer ministry beginning in March. He will be teaching a course entitled: “You can pray,” which will consist of four one-hour sessions.

It is his hope that eventually as many members as possible will have taken part.

The church is at 847 New Hope Road, Fayetteville, and can be reached at 770-461-2409. You might want to check out its web site at www.nfumc@mindspring.com.
