Tyrone to discuss Founders Day

Although the calendar says March, this week's meeting of the Tyrone Town Council will have a little fall flavor to it.

The council is expected to give approval for a contract with Peachtree Rides to supply the fun at next September's Founders Day celebration. The council is also expected to allow Mayor Sheryl Lee to enter into a contract for the tent rental for the September celebration.

The council is also expected to discuss an ordinance to regulate governmental operations. The ordinance was tabled from the Feb. 27 meeting and town manager Barry Amos said the measure will help streamline the government operations.

The meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall.

Last week, the Tyrone Planning Commission gave approval to developer Joel Cowan's preliminary plat for phase one of his Lake Windsong development. The first phase features 33 homes and the planning commission had only one caveat for Cowan.

“Try and save as many trees as you can,” said commissioner Lyn Redwood.

The commissioners also asked Cowan if he could possibly save a big dogwood tree leading into his subdivision. The commission suggested using a landscaped island to preserve the tree.
