The 300 members of National Heights Baptist Church keep their youth in mind when planning missions. In March the church's youth group will attend March Mission Madness in Atlanta, spending the weekend painting houses for senior citizens, clearing parks, etc. This summer they head to Daytona Beach where they will be doing some more painting and clearing and teaching Vacation Bible School. They also will help Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit organization providing housing for poor people. Adults will attend their annual spring retreat March 31 - April 1. The Rev. Dr. Kent Anglin will give seminars on the family. He is president of the Family Life Institute in Cleveland, Ga., which is a counseling center. Adults also will work for Habitat for Humanity this summer, and they are active in supporting the Morningstar Children's Home in Brunswick. Also in March, the congregation will dedicate Christopher's Garden on its property. Christopher Adair was a 10-year-old grandson of a church member, who died just over a year ago with leukemia. The church's mission work also extends to offering a weekly Bible Study at the nearby senior center, Dogwood Estates. Twice a month it conducts a worship service there. Two members, Fred Hood and Minor Gouge, volunteer as chaplains at the Fayette Community Hospital. A summer camp will be offered throughout the summer for children kindergarten through fifth grade. It is open to the community just give them a call. The church has always been open to sharing its facilities and currently Overeaters Anonymous meets there Thursday evenings, and Stars on the Southern Crescent, a coffeehouse now in its seventh season, has an evening of storytelling and skits from time to time. The Easter season will find special musical programs at the church and a seder will be conducted Maundy Thursday with the Rev. Dr. Nancy D. Wofford conducting the service. She is professor of Old Testament at the McAfee School of Theology, Mercer in Atlanta. The church is at 403 Old Norton Road, at Ga. Highway 54, Fayetteville, and is led by the Rev. Dr. William B. Scarbough. Services are Sundays at 9:45 a.m. for Sunday School and 10:55 a.m. for worship service. The church can be reached at 770-461-1704.
