NAACP Youth Councel plans celebration Sunday

The Fayette County NAACP Youth Council will present A Celebration of Youth Sunday at 4 p.m. at North Fayette Elementary School on Kenwood Drive in Fayetteville.

The program will celebrate the achievements, talents and accomplishments of young people in Fayette and neighboring counties, and is conducted to honor the 91st anniversary of the NAACP.

The program features a message from Allison Henderson, a senior at Starr's Mill High School. Other participants include the group “Anonymous” from the mime ministry of St. John's AME Church, a step show and performances by the singing group Red.

NAACP national director of field operations Nelson B. Rivers III and Southeast region director the Rev. Charles L. White Jr. also will participate.

“We are proud of the accomplishments and talents of young people in our community and we hope parents and youth will come out next Sunday to help us celebrate the positive things about our youth,” said Jamila Rivers, president of the Youth Council.

The program is open to the public.

A souvenir book is being published to include ads and a patron list. To support the event by purchasing an ad or becoming a patron, phone 770-460-8819.

Part of the proceeds from the program will benefit the fund to support the family of Kerry Ruffin, the Sandy Creek High School student who was injured in a recent wrestling match.
