King joins Atlanta Medical Center staff  

Paul K. King recently joined Atlanta Medical Center as a neurosurgeon.

He will work in the hospital's emergency room and trauma department and also will see patients in private practice. He has a special interest in spinal tumors, spinal trauma and vascular diseases of the brain.

“Paul brings more than 13 years of experience and a long list of accomplishments to Atlanta Medical Center,” said Steven L. Saltzman, M.D., senior vice president and medical director of Atlanta Medical Center. “His contributions to the staff and our patients will be tremendous, and we are happy that he is on board.”

Prior to joining Atlanta Medical Center, King served as chief of the department of neurosurgery at Grace Hospital in Detroit, Mich. While in private practice with University Neurosurgical Associates PC, he also treated patients at numerous other Detroit-area hospitals, and he served as an assistant professor in the department of neurosurgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine. King also worked in private practice in Battle Creek, Mich.

King received his undergraduate degree from Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn., and then went on to earn his medical degree from Michigan State University, where he serves on the board of directors for the College of Human Medicine Alumni Association. He completed his internship in general surgery and residency in neurological surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, and also completed a spine fellowship with Emory University Hospital's department of neurosurgery.

A recognized, board-certified neurosurgeon, King is a member of numerous professional associations including the American Medical Association, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgery and the American Association of University Professors. In addition, King has served on the editorial board of Clinical Neurosurgery magazine and was co-director of Detroit's Receiving Hospital's spinal cord unit.

He has participated in numerous seminars and has presented many lectures, abstracts, papers and presentations dealing with his specialty. King and his wife have three children. They live in Fayetteville.
