Fayetteville City Council Monday will consider increasing its budget allocation for Fayette Senior Services by $7,500 this year to duplicate last year's budget. FSS is planning a major fund-raising effort this year for a new service center, and costs for its services to Fayette's senior population continue to increase, said Andy Carden, director. The city provided $12,500 last year, but part of it was in a special hiring program. Since that program is no longer needed, the city neglected to include that funding this year. But Carden said the nonprofit organization needs the money for other purposes. Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall. Also on the agenda will be reversion of a rezoning on Ga. Highway 54. Through lawyer Geoff Slade, owners of the Landrum property near Ace Hardware are asking that council delay its planned reversal of their earlier rezoning of the property until a case against them is heard in court. The owners are accused of using the property improperly as a parking lot for dump trucks in violation of its office-insittutional zoning. A court hearing is scheduled for March 23. The Fayette County legislative delegation will host a town hall meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Starr's Mill High School auditorium to discuss Gov. Roy Barnes' education bill, House Bill 1187. Sen. Rick Price, Sen. Greg Hecht, Rep. Lynn Westmoreland and Rep. Kathy Cox will participate in the open meeting. The delegation is asking parents, student teachers administrators, civic leaders and community residents to attend and share their thoughts and opinions.
