Peachtree City is once again providing $6,000 for the Fayette County Council on Domestic Violence, matching last year's funding amount.

The organization requested the amount for office space rental, city manager Jim Basinger reported at the Feb. 3 City Council meeting. Basinger added that the Peachtree City Police Department responded to 39 percent of the 575 domestic violence calls in Fayette County in 1999.

City staff recommended that the funds, should the City Council approve the request, come from contingency. Mayor Bob Lenox pointed out that the city has been providing funds for the Council on Domestic Violence since 1994 and it should be added to the budget in the coming years. Mayor Pro Tempore Annie McMenamin agreed, saying that the organization is a valuable contributor to the health and safety of the city's residents.

The request was approved unanimously.

In other business, Richard Cruse submitted an application for a license to serve beer and wine at the Cruse Coffee Company and Gallery at 100 Peachtree Parkway North. That application was approved unanimously.
