City is studying trailer variance

All Dana and Phillip Blake want to do is add a storage building to their back yard.

But since the storage building is an old tractor trailer body, the city of Senoia is being very careful before granting any variance to allow the Blakes to start their project.

During next Monday's City Council meeting the city is expected to decide on the Blakes' variance question. Dana Blake told the council two weeks ago the couple had recently purchased the trailer bed at an auction in Newnan.

The couple plans to redo the exterior completely and put vinyl siding around the structure and add a pitched, shingle roof.

Instead of buying a pre-made storage building, the Blakes decided to go the trailer route simply because it was about $3,400 cheaper.

The storage trailer would connect to the newly closed-in garage of the couple's home on Standing Rock Road and Dana Blake assured the council that they would do every thing possible to make the structure aesthetically pleasing.

“We've lived here for about 10 years and plan on retiring here. We don't want to do anything to lower property values,” she said.

The couple presented the council with detailed plans of the building, and said they hoped to have the project completed within three months.

After looking at the drawings, Mayor Joan Trammell asked the council for more time to study the issue before voting on it.

“I'd personally like to drive over there and get a better idea in my mind of what this will look like,” she said.
