A Fayetteville man remains in the hospital after a one-car accident during the wee hours of Saturday morning.

According to police reports, Paul Pino Jr., 28, was driving east when his 1992 Plymouth Acclaim left the roadway and struck a light pole at 450 Kelly Drive at about 1:45 a.m. A witness heard the accident and called police.

Pino was taken to Southern Regional Medical Center, and was initially listed as critical, according to the police report. A spokesman for the hospital said Tuesday morning that he was in fair condition.

The police report cited Pino's roommate, who gave a statement at the scene, as saying Pino appeared to be intoxicated. The vehicle was impounded for investigation, and charges are pending based on results of blood tests.

In an unrelated incident, another one-car accident Monday afternoon resulted in a trip to the hospital for the driver.

A van was driving west on Ga. Highway 54 just east of the square in Fayetteville shortly before 1 p.m. when it went off the road and struck a tree, according to Fayetteville Fire Chief Alan Jones.

The driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was transported to Fayette Community Hospital. The name of the driver was not available at press time.
