Unique gifts offered for Valentines

Looking for something different to give your sweetheart on Valentine's Day?

Four local barbershop quartets are adding a twist to the standard Valentine roses, chocolates and cards this year. The Quartets are “dressing in style” and taking their musical talents on the road to share a “Singing Valentine” with your special someone.

The Harmony Brothers, the Covenant Four, and the two groups humorously nicknamed “Clyde's Dales” and the “Misfits” while they search for a formal name, will go to any location in Fayette, Henry, Coweta or Spalding counties and sing a medly of love songs your sweetheart - or sweethearts - Feb. 12 - 14.

“In addition to serenading your loved one, the quartets give a rose, a small box of heart-shaped chocolates and a card with a personal message from you,” said Conrad Harris, Singing Valentine coordinator and Southland Chorus member.

To commemorate the Singing Valentine event, the quartets take a Polaroid picture. The cost for a Singing Valentine is only $35 and includes the rose, card, candy and picture. The groups will also do a customized Valentine for an additional cost. Harris noted, “The Quartets have been hired in the past to assist with marriage proposals.”

The quartets are part of the well-known Southland Chorus. The chorus has grown recently to a total membership of 30. Membership is open to men who “enjoy singing a song and would like to know more about harmonizing and improving their singing talents,” according to a spokesman.

The chorus meets Thursdays at 7 p.m. in the Lutheran Church on the corner of Ga. Highway 54 and Peachtree Parkway in Peachtree City. The groups use the money raised from their Singing Valentines and other engagements for charities, such as the Heart Springs Foundation, and to support their musical endeavors.
