Main
Street Fayetteville is offering to
custom-inscribe bricks and install them in its
brick sidewalk project surrounding the Old
Courthouse on The Square in Fayetteville.
Sherri
Anderson, director of Main Street, said the
campaign is similar to the veteran's brick
program that Fayette conducted in Heritage Park
two years ago. Sale of the bricks will help raise
funds for downtown sidewalk improvements and
offer a lasting memory from the year 2000.
We
wanted to have some fun with this project and
give everyone in the community a chance to be
included, said Anderson. Students can
pool their money to honor their favorite
teachers, and parents can commemorate their
children's birthdays.
One
man came through town on business from England,
she said, and bought bricks for his wife and
daughters, giving them a piece of
America.
Bricks
for Valentine's will include a Valentine card to
announce the gift, and can be purchased at
Fayetteville City Hall. For other occasional, an
announcement card acknowledging the purchase will
be sent.
We
will sell bricks through the July Jam on Main
Street, which takes place July 15, said
Anderson.
The
personalized bricks are part of a larger Main
Street Project that will begin this summer.
Existing sidewalks along Lanier Avenue, Glynn
Street south and around the Old Courthouse will
be replaced with brick pavers to match those in
front of the old Courthouse Square businesses.
Historic-style
street lighting also will be added along the new
brick sidewalks. The city currently is working on
the design of the entire streetscape project with
The Presnell Group, an engineering and
architectural firm.
To
get your bricks, stop by City Hall or phone Main
Street at 770-761-6029.
