The lack of serious Y2K problems in Peachtree City over the New Year's weekend is largely due to the efforts of some key city staff members, said Mayor Bob Lenox. Systems administrator Brad Williams, public information specialist Betsy Tyler, facilities maintenance head David McDaniel and acting fire chief Stony Lohr have been singled out for recognition by the City Council due to their intensive planning and preparation in the months leading up to the end of 1999. Lenox said that the plan these people put in place, which fortunately was not seriously tested, can be used in the case of any major catastrophe that may strike the city. All senior city management worked New Year's Eve, Lenox told residents during last week's City Council meeting, just in case. A comprehensive Y2K plan was announced by the city last summer, and a central command center was established during the actual holiday to facilitate a higher level of readiness in case major power problems or other trouble came up.
