Snowbirds to
highlight 2000 Wings Over Dixie Coming on
the heels of a wildly successful September 1999
air show, Wings Over Dixie 2000 is being
scheduled for the weekend of May 13-14, and will
feature the Snowbirds, Canada's premier military
nine-jet aerobatic team.
We are very
excited to have just received confirmation from
the Snowbirds that they will be performing in
this year's air show, said Lewis Jordan,
chairman of the Wings Over Dixie Air Show and
Festival 2000. Because the Wings over Dixie
air show is in only its third year as a major
entertainment event, we feel highly honored that
our show has been selected by the Canadian
National Defense Snowbirds jet aerobatic team as
one of only 14 sites in the United States for an
appearance this year, Jordan said.
Tom Barnes,
wing leader of Atlanta's Dixie Wing, CAF, has
been working since December 1998 to secure the
team, and we're confident that their performance
will help us draw record crowds that will boost
revenues for the local charities that the air
show supports, he added.
Wings Over Dixie
`99, which was Sept. 11-12, featured four solid
hours of air performances each day, and included
demonstrations by military fighter jets, a B-1
bomber, by aerobatic teams such as
airshowunlimited.com and more. This year,
organizers say the lineup will be bigger and
better, highlighted by the addition of the
Snowbirds.
The Snowbirds
are rated as one of the top military aerobatic
teams in the world, putting them in the company
of the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds,
said Tom Barnes. This will be the first
time in more than 12 years that the Atlanta area
will have an opportunity to see an aerobatic
performance of this caliber.
