The Fayette County Chamber of Commerce should provide better leadership in the community, said incoming Chairman Tate Godfrey Saturday.

Speaking during the group's Annual Banquet, Godfrey gave his expectations for the coming year.

“I hope to build on the chamber's role as the voice of business in Fayette County and I thank my predecessors, Dot Kite and Michael Whiteside, for their tremendous strides on that issue,” he said. “I have asked the board and the Governmental Affairs Committee to become even more aggressive in speaking out on behalf of our member businesses,” he added.

“I have challenged the board to insure we are providing high quality services and the acid test of any chamber program should be `Does it help build wealth and security for our members?',” Godfrey said.

“We are evaluating member surveys and will be sponsoring seminars on topics beneficial to members,” he added.

“The business community in Fayette County,” he concluded, “has an obligation to provide better leadership in shaping our future. I ask all of you to join in and help us provide that leadership.”

Godfrey is employed by Pathway Communities as director of industrial sales and office leasing.
