Peachtree City firefighters responded to a house fire early Wednesday morning that resulted in extensive damage to a residence at the corner of Loblolly and Hip Pocket.

According to a spokesperson for the Fire Department, the garage area was fully involved when firefighters initially responded at about 3:30 a.m.

Their efforts enabled them to save a couple of automobiles and stop the fire in the garage, but it spread through the attic and resulted in extensive smoke and fire damage throughout the house.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation. About 20 firefighters worked at the site.

The occupants of the house were at home when it occurred, and they awoke and got out with injury. No firefighters were injured either.

Firefighters were forced to work around a potentially serious electrical problem to put out the fire. A power line hooked into the garage burned off at one end but remained live, and Georgia Power was unable to respond immediately due to its work around the area relating to last weekend's winter storms.

Firefighters put up orange cones around the power line in order to avoid it.
