By the middle of this year, the city of Senoia should be fully staffed to handle the growth that is slowly heading its way. That's the word from Mayor Joan Trammell as she moves into her second term of office. Last week, the city announced the hiring of a part-time city planner. Bill Johnston, who also serves as a city planner for Tyrone, College Park and Hapeville. Johnston will be paid $60 per hour, and Trammell expects the new planner to spend 10 to 12 hours a month on doing the city business. After talking to the Planning Commission about hiring a part-time planner, Trammell knew the time was right. The Planning Commission said they had put their thoughts into rewriting the zoning ordinances and would be eager to get a fresh perspective on things, she said. Trammell had heard Johnston's name bandied about by other local governments and was quite impressed with his background. He's dealing with places like Tyrone that are growing quickly and also with areas like College Park and Hapeville that are redoing some of their areas,' she said. Trammell believes Johnston will help the city immensely, by bringing his perspective to the table. The mayor also expects to hire a city administrator by the middle of the year. The city has been talking about hiring a city manager for years, but Trammell is serious about getting a person hired this year who can help the city write grants and administer the city's business on a daily basis. We've got the sewer project underway and there's a lot of projects coming our way that an administrator can help us sort out, she said.
