The latest Georgia Public Education Report Card released this week finds Coweta County ranking near the bottom of the metro Atlanta region in several categories. The report card was released by the state Department of Education Monday and offers parents and other interested parties a comprehensive comparison of school systems around the state. Coweta County students ranked 46th in the state with an average Scholastic Aptitude Test of 962. Only Spalding County, with a ranking of 111, and the city of Atlanta, which ranked 151, rated lower in the region than Coweta. Neighboring Fayette County topped the state rankings with an average score of 1048, while five of the other top 10 slots were occupied by metro school systems. In individual school rankings, Newnan High School ranked 99th, while East Coweta came in at 129 out of 330 schools that took the test. The results were not that much better at the lower levels. The report card evaluated systems also on grade three scores on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. Coweta County students ranked 47th in the state, while neighboring Fayette County ranked fourth. Individually, White Oak Elementary had the highest state ranking at 132 out of 1,071 schools taking the test. Other elementary school rankings included: Northside-154.
