Here are more 'best' ideas

By F.C. FOODIE

Ahhh...everybody's a critic.

That's the feeling I always get when I start writing about Fayette's dining options. People are genuinely passionate about their food, and are not afraid to voice their opinions.

When I proclaimed the “Best of Fayette” last month, I knew would get a few comments.

I've heard people say that China Cafe is the best Chinese food in the county, while others argue that Fayetteville's Malt Shoppe serves the best burger.

One of the best responses I got was from “Annie” in Peachtree City. In a well-written response, Annie first started out by commenting on the overall dining scene.

“It still seems to be a gastronomic wasteland of the same old stuff, including a lot of poor service,” she wrote.

Some of her choices included:

* Best Mexican - Garibaldi's in Union City for authentic food.

* Best new restaurant - Pascal's in Peachtree City. The restaurant opened in November, and Annie calls it exceptional.

* Best Italian - Baci in Fayetteville.

Annie also had a brilliant suggestion that could really be fun for our readers - a progressive dinner of bests in the county for the ideal meal.

Best appetizer, best soup, best salad, best entree and best dessert. Put them all together and you could really have a tasting of the bests in the county. Maybe the restaurants chosen for the courses could work together and stage such a dinner. The possibilities are endless.

In other dining news:

Applebee's in Fayetteville is set for a Jan. 24 opening. The chain features a variety of dishes including ribs, salads, pastas and other tasty tidbits.

Wings `n' Things in Fayetteville has moved to its new location in the old Memphis Blues building behind Mrs. Winners. The new location offers more space for the owners to serve up those delectable wings.

One of the better dining establishments in the county that doesn't get a lot of press is the restaurant at WhiteWater Country Club. The restaurant is housed in a beautiful building and serves up tasty Continental food with a flair.
