Is it the game or the food that makes Superbowl Sunday an American tradition? The passes executed into the bowl of dip often surpass the ho-hum tosses into the end zone during a typical Superbowl match-up. Last year's Falcon fiasco was down-played by many fans who chose the pimiento spread over the point spread. This year's match-up is still in question, but one thing is certain creating a delicious spread of football food will keep the fans cheering. Transforming your Superbowl gathering into a souper bowl event is as easy as shopping the canned soup and bean aisle in your local supermarket. Campbell's Soup offers a variety of quick, easy to prepare appetizer and entree recipes that fit perfectly into a halftime gathering. Bush's beans offers a quick and easy dip recipe and tortilla wrap idea that can be whipped up in the time it takes to say Interference. For a colorful pregame snack, try Pronto Picante spinach dip from Campbell's: Ingredients call for: 2 cups Pace Picante sauce 2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese (8 ounces) 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese cut into cubes 1 package (about 10 ounces) frozen chopped spinach, thawed and well-drained 1 cup chopped pitted ripe olives In a large saucepan, mix picante sauce, Monterey Jack cheese, cream cheese, spinach and olives. Over medium heat, cook until cheeses are melted, stirring often. Serve with tortilla chips, fresh vegetables or bread cubes for sipping. Makes 5 1/4 cups. Prep/cook time: 20 minutes Another recipe with a sassy south-of-the-border flavor is Campbell's Nachos Ole Ingredients include: 1 can Campbell's cheddar cheese soup 1/2 cup Pace chunky salsa 1 bag (about 10 ounces) tortilla chips Chopped tomato, sliced green onions, sliced pitted ripe olives, chopped green or red pepper Prep/Cook time: 15 minutes Mix soup and salsa in saucepan. Heat through. Serve over chips. Top with tomato, onions, olives and pepper. Serves 6 Prep/cook time 15 minutes How about some Campbell's Souper Chili? l lb. ground beef 1 medium onion, chopped 1 small green pepper, chopped 1/8 tsp. garlic powder or 1 clove garlic, minced 2 cans (10 3/4 each) Campbell's tomato soup 1 can Campbell's bean with bacon soup 1 1/2 cups pace Chunky Salsa or Picante Sauce 1 1/2 cups water 1 can whole kernel corn, drained 1 cup uncooked wheel-shaped or elbow pasta Shredded cheddar cheese Sliced green onions Cook beef, onion, pepper and garlic in saucepot until beef is browned. Pour off fat. Adds soups, salsa, water and corn. Heat to a boil. Cover and cook over a low heat 10 minutes. Stir in pasta. Cover and cook 10 minutes or until pasta is done. Top with cheese and green onions. Serves 6. Prep/Cook Time: 35 minutes For a hearty halftime entree, try Campbell's Buffalo burgers: 1 lb. of ground beef 1 can (10 3/4 ounces) Campbell's tomato soup 1/8 tsp. hot pepper sauce 1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese 4 hamburger rolls, split and toasted Shape beef into four patties, 1/2 inch thick. Cook patties in skillet until browned. Pour off fat. Add soup and hot pepper sauce. Heat to a boil. Cover and cook over low heat 5 minutes or until done. Top with cheese. Serve on rolls with soup mixture. Serves 4. Pick up a can of Bush's Texas recipe Chili Magic chili starter and warm up with a chicken-chili wrap: 1 cup chopped onion 1 tablespoon olive oil' 1 can (15.5 ounces) Bush's Texas recipe Chili Magic chili starter 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained 1 (10 ounce) package cooked and sliced chicken breasts or 2 cups cooked chicken or turkey shredded romaine lettuce 8 burrito-size spinach, tomato or whole wheat tortillas shredded Monterey Jack or Colby cheese chopped tomatoes Cook onion in oil in large saucepan over medium heat until tender, about 3 minutes. Stir in Chili Magic, tomatoes and chicken. Cover and simmer 7 to 10 minutes. Place about 1/2 cup shredded lettuce in middle of tortilla. Top with about 1/2 cup of the chicken mixture. Top with cheese and tomato. Fold in two sides and roll up into burrito style. Serve whole or cut in half if desired. Prep time/ 10 minutes Cooking time/10 minutes The fans will go wild over these easy to fix hot `n' honeyed chicken wings: 1 cup Pace Picante Sauce 1/4 cup honey 1/2 tsp. ground ginger 12 chicken wings (about 2 pounds) Mix picante sauce, honey and ginger. Set aside. Cut tips off wings, and discard or save for another use. Cut wings in half at joints to make 24 pieces. Add to picante sauce mixture and toss to coat. Place the chicken mixture in foil-lined shallow-sided baking pan. Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 55 minutes or until chicken is glazed and no longer pink, turning and brushing often with sauce during last 30 minutes of baking. Makes 24 appetizers.
