Knight tabbed as top builder in the region

The Knight Group, which is based in Jonesboro, is once again among the Metropolitan Atlanta area's top home builders, gaining recognition at the annual Professionalism Awards Banquet, held Saturday night, Nov. 13.

The black-tie awards dinner and program, which took place at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, was produced by the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association and the Atlanta Sales and Marketing Council to recognize the most outstanding professionals in Atlanta's home building industry.

The awards program gives members of its 3,870-member association an opportunity to compete with their industry professionals in building, remodeling, marketing and personal achievement areas.

This year, 36 industry professionals came to Atlanta from across the United States during August to judge 664 entries. The Knight Group earned a Silver Award in the category for Single Family Detached Homes in the $99,999 and under price range (companies building 100 plus homes a year). The winning home is located in the Biscayne Pointe community in the Rex area of Clayton County. With homes priced from the $90,000s up, Biscayne Pointe is on a pace to record over 125 new home sales during 1999.

The marketing team in the community is composed of Knight Realty's Ann Burell and Nancy Kerlin, who can be contacted at (770) 507-2489 . The Knight Group, formerly known as Knight Development, is a family business and has earned numerous awards for building quality and customer service in recent years.

During the 1990s, the company has been a consistent winner of Professionalism Awards in the annual competition, bringing home two of these awards in 1992, five in 1995, one in 1997 and two in 1998. The Knight Group has a history going back to 1973, when brothers Perry and Scott Knight started framing houses for builders in the Metro South area.

They began building homes in the late 1970s. Perry's son Jay, who joined the firm in 1982, now serves as president of The Knight Group, which currently builds approximately 250 homes a year. Scott's son Chris, who joined the company last year, is now vice president.
