The Citizen goes daily online

Fayette residents, you now have a new daily newspaper.

But you don't have to subscribe. In fact, you don't even have to pick this new information resource up from your driveway, or take it out of the mailbox.

You can get daily news of your hometown with the simple click of a mouse button.

The Citizen Daily Online began publication Monday at The Citizen Online address, www.thecitizennews.com.

News updates will be posted on the web site daily by 10 a.m., providing news and sports updates from the previous day, plus information on upcoming events during the day and evening — entertainment, government meetings, sports, community and church activities.

And when important news happens, The Citizen Daily Online will provide immediate updates.

“The Citizen has been way ahead of the competition in providing local news online,” said editor and publisher Cal Beverly in announcing the new service. “Now we're taking another step forward designed to keep Fayette citizens informed about what's happening in their county rapidly and conveniently.”

News items will be brief and concise, Beverly said, so that local residents who bookmark the site can get daily updates in a matter of minutes from their home or office computers.

In-depth coverage of local news, business, entertainment and sports, along with informative special sections, will continue to appear in The Citizen, distributed each Wednesday to 25,000 Fayette homes and in The Peachtree Citizen Review and The Coweta Citizen Review, covering east Coweta and west Fayette. And The Citizen Sunday will continue to offer upbeat features, thoughtful columns and local religion news each Sunday.

And the contents of all three papers will continue to be available at thecitizennews.com.

But Internet surfers who stop at the web site will now find daily news on the front page, with links to the Wednesday, Friday and Sunday papers.

“With this new product, Fayette commuters can have an instant link with home during their work day,” said Beverly. “We invite everyone to use and enjoy this free service.”

The site is best viewed using free, widely available Internet browsers, including Netscape 4.0 and above and Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 and above.
