The Peachtree City Beautification Committee will have its annual tree planting Saturday, Jan. 15, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Volunteers are needed to help plant 2,000 pine seedlings and 2,000 daffodil bulbs in honor of the millennium.

In the past decade, the Beautification Committee has added thousands of treesto the rights-of-way of Peachtree Parkway, Robinson Road and Flat Creek Road, along the banks of Lake Peachtree and at the Line Creek Nature Area. This year's tree planting project will help reforest areas on Peachtree Parkway South at Crosstown Road and at the Braelinn Recreation Area that are currently mowed by the Public Works and Recreation departments.

For the 2000 millennium project, the Beautification Committee has gained an enthusiastic partner in the form of Katherine Sumpter. A Starr's Mill High School sophomore, Sumpter has organized the planting of 2,000 daffodil bulbs in the landscaped areas along Ga. Highway 54 near City Hall.

She will be working with organizations of which she is a member, including Girl Scouts of America Troop 19 and the Starr's Mill High School Key Club, to recruit volunteers to help implement the project.

Volunteers are needed and welcome. The committee and volunteers will meet at City Hall at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15.
