Peachtree City residents have several programs at the library to look forward to in the coming months.

Georgia author Jaclyn Weldon White will be downstairs in the library Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 7:30 p.m. to talk about her recently published book “Whisper to the Black Candle.”

Anjette Lyles, the subject of the book, was a popular Macon restaurant owner during the `50s, who made headlines when she was charged with the murder of two husbands, as well as her mother-in-law and her 9-year-old daughter.

One of the reporters who covered the trial for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution was a young Celestine Sibley.

White leads the reader through the stories of the murders spiced with hints of black magic and voodoo. Jurors, prosecutors, witnesses and even the jailer and his wife were interviewed to get the information for the book.

White is the juvenile court administrator in Gwinnett County.

Although she has been published in many newspapers and journals around the state, this is her first book. She would like to meet and give an autographed copy to anyone who might be mentioned in the book.

The Friends of the Library are sponsoring a program to celebrate Black History Month, scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m. downstairs.

The Alliance Theatre will present a two-person drama based on the life of Harriet Tubman, the Civil War heroine who helped free slaves through the Underground Railroad.

This program is recommended for children 10 and up. Adults will enjoy it, too.
