Hundreds gather in downtown Senoia for photo op

The city of Senoia is still buzzing about the success of last Saturday's group picture of the town.

The idea for photographing the town on the first day of 2000 was the inspiration of local photographer Gary Gruby.

“Great portraits are given, not taken and this city gave it all to have a great shot,” he said.

Gruby said he has received calls from as far away as New Jersey from folks who saw the photo on the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's web site. Metro Atlanta's daily used the photo on its front page.

Now that he's pulled off taking the picture, Gruby is starting the process of making a series of limited edition prints for the townfolk to enjoy.

He plans to start out with a limited edition of 8” x 10” prints priced at $20 each. After those start selling, he plans to make available larger prints on special linen paper that are hand printed.

He credits local businessmen Frank Hollberg and Jimmy Hutchinson for making the event such a huge success and also thanked Winpak Film's Gary Connaughty for making a corporate donation to help defray the costs of the shoot.

Gruby has been a professional photographer for years, but said Saturday's picture was one of the most beautiful he has ever shot.

The crowd gathered on Main Street shows the rest of the state that the city values its quality life and small-town living, he said, adding that it also shows that people are willing to come to downtown Senoia.

He estimated between 600 and 800 people attended the event and thanked everyone for one of the most memorable days in Senoia's recent history. If you would like to order a print, phone Gruby at 770-599-8416.
