New
years plans and predictions The New Year is a time of reflection and a time to look forward. We asked some of our local leaders and Prime Timers to share their plans for the future and to make some predictions. *Glenn Winselette I plan to continue to work toward creating a destination atmosphere for Fayette County through its history, beauty and recreation. *Greg Dunn Changes in Next Year: In the year 2000 Fayette County will continue to prosper as we usher in more & more change. Fayetteville has elected a new mayor and new councilmen and Peachtree City has elected a new councilman. In July county wide elections will produce further change in our political leadership. Hopefully all elected officials will look beyond their own political boundaries as they deal with public safety, land use and growth issues. The time when each jurisdiction could `do its own thing' has gone the way of the dinosaur. We will see the beginnings of a new judicial complex to serve the ever-increasing needs of our cities and the unincorporated county. As all local governments address environmental issues we will see fewer trees being destroyed in the name of progress and more greenspace preserved as development occurs. Hopefully we will see all jurisdictions managing growth better in order that our infrastructure and quality of life not suffer. Fayette County is one of the few counties in the State of Georgia which still has the ability to determine its own fate. I predict that the new millennium will see Fayette County break the mold, refuse to become little more than a suburb of Atlanta, and continue to set the standard for quality of life in Georgia. *Charlie Nelson: To make the 15th Anniversary Issue of the Guide - Covering Coweta and Fayette Counties the best annual reference since it was started 15 years ago as the Guide to Peachtree City. Fred Bowen I plan to actively support the Chamber's initiatives for more participation in activities which will enhance business interests in Fayette County in the coming year. There will be some changes for businesses involved in the Chamber. They will see their interests more publicly highlighted either through interfacing with our political leaders or more publicity in the local newspapers. I think this is a positive situation for the county. Most of our businesses are small businesses Ò most of our small business owners and their employees are Fayette County residents. We will continue to try to balance their business interests with their concerns regarding growth. Harold Bost I predict that the 2000 local elections will be hard fought to keep the control of Fayette County Government in the hands of the citizens and out of the hands of special interest.
