It
was a nice community celebration, complete with a
tailgate party.
The
Fayette Heritage Project committee has used some
of its funds to promote historic communities
throughout the county, both those long gone and
those still in existence. The first sign recently
was erected in the Kenwood Community in the north
end of Fayette County and both committee members
and community residents turned out for the event.
Hot
cider was served from the back of a truck and
historical information was exchanged between
long-time Kenwood citizens.
A
total of 18 community signs will be erected and
the other sites include: Fife/Bethany, Helmer,
Friendship, Hopeful, Sandy Creek, Stop, Tyrone,
Fayetteville, Cross Roads, Harp's Crossing,
Aberdeen/Clover, Rest, Inman, Woolsey, Dublin,
Starr's Mill, Lowry, Brooks and Chestlehurst.
The
Fayette Heritage Project Committee is made up of
county employees, representatives from the local
newspapers, the historical society and interested
county citizens.
It
is responsible for the Heritage Fountain at
Stonewall Village, Fayetteville, and for the
veteran brick project, also located at the
fountain.
The
funds from the brick project will be used not
only for the historic signs but also for various
historic projects throughout Fayette County.
