Church relocation plans would require rezoning

Plans for expansion of Fayette Baptist Church will receive scrutiny from the Fayette County Planning Commission Thursday as the group considers its first set of rezoning requests during 2000.

Pastor Larry Spencer will act as agent for the church's request that the county change the zoning of 5.2 acres on Seay Road from R-40 to A-R to allow church and school facilities. R-40 allows single family homes on 1.5-acre lots, while A-R (agricultural residential) allows homes on minimum five-acre lots.

Either zoning also allows churches. The reason for the rezoning is that the land is part of a larger site for the church, and different parts of the site are zoned differently. For future regulation purposes, it's better if all the land is in the same zoning district, according to zoning director Kathy Zeitler.

She said the church plans to move from its current location, on Longview Road off Kenwood north of Fayetteville, and to build a multipurpose church/school building and athletic fields on the site.

Other rezoning requests on the agenda Thursday are:

James and Claudine Oakley's request to rezone 4.2 acres on New Hope Circle from A-R to R-70, a two-acre subdivision category, to develop two home lots.

A request from Danny and Julie Beck to change the conditions of their R-45 zoning so they can put a pool next to their home on Olde Oak Drive.

Commissioners meet at 7 p.m. in room 212 of the County Administrative Complex.
